Estes tracking: how to track by PRO or BOL
Track an Estes Express Lines shipment by PRO or BOL number. See where to find each on your paperwork. Ventura, CA 93001. Call (805) 984-4114.
To track an Estes Express Lines shipment, enter the PRO number on the Estes tracking page, and if you do not have a PRO, use the BOL number on the same page.
Estes Express Lines is based in Richmond, Virginia, and the company dates its start to 1931.
How to track by PRO or BOL
- Find the PRO number on the bill of lading or the pickup receipt.
- If you do not have a PRO, find the BOL number on that same paperwork.
- Enter the number on the official Estes tracking page.
- Read the latest scan and the terminal location, not only the status word.
- Open a trace if there is no new scan for more than two business days, or if the delivery date has passed.
Where to find your PRO / BOL
- Bill of lading (BOL). The PRO is often printed near the top of the form and labeled PRO or PRO number. The BOL number is the shipper document number on the same form.
- Pickup receipt. The driver leaves this at collection. It usually repeats the PRO.
- Booking email. If the shipment was tendered electronically, the confirmation lists the PRO and the BOL.
- TMS. Your transportation system stores both numbers on the shipment record.
If the freight is inbound and someone else booked it, the shipper has the PRO. Ask them before you try every reference you hold.

PRO number vs BOL number
A PRO number (progressive number) is the carrier tracking number for one shipment. A BOL number is the shipper document reference. The PRO lookup is the reliable one. A BOL lookup can miss if the number was keyed differently at booking. If a BOL search returns nothing and you are sure the shipment exists, get the PRO from the shipper.
A PRO from one carrier means nothing to another carrier. An Estes PRO will not resolve on AAA Cooper, TForce Freight, or Forward Air.
What Estes tracking statuses mean
LTL freight scans at terminal events, not as a live GPS position. The labels below are the usual stages. The words on the Estes page may differ. Freight can sit at a terminal overnight in normal operation.
- Picked up. The driver collected the freight and it is headed to the origin terminal.
- In transit. It is moving between terminals. A gap of a day or more between scans on a long lane is normal.
- At destination terminal. It is in the delivery city and waiting for a local route.
- Out for delivery. It is on a truck today.
- Delivered. Check the signature name and time. For a claim, request the signed delivery receipt.
- Exception or attempted. Delivery was blocked: no one at the dock, a limited-access stop, a missing appointment, or a refusal. An appointment, limited access, or a liftgate can also add accessorial charges. Open a trace rather than only refreshing the page.
What to do when Estes tracking has not updated
Wait two business days. After that, or if the delivery date has passed with no movement, open a trace.
- Confirm the PRO. A transposed digit causes more dead lookups than lost freight.
- Check for an appointment or a limited-access stop. Those deliveries wait until someone books the delivery, and they can add accessorial charges.
- Open a trace with the PRO, pickup date, origin and destination ZIPs, and the piece and weight count.
- Ask for the destination terminal once the trace is open. That terminal knows whether the freight is on the dock.
- Write down the trace reference and the dates.
How to request an Estes pickup
Request a pickup on the Estes website, through your TMS, or by phone. You need the origin address, ready time, dock close time, piece count, weight, and freight class.
The ready-time window is the detail that most often causes a missed pickup. Give a window the dock can hold, and make sure the freight is staged before the driver arrives.
